Tracy Ellen Beard: The Person Behind the Stories

Writer. Editor. Photographer. Traveler. Humanitarian.

Some people collect souvenirs when they travel. I collect stories.

For more than three decades, I have dedicated my professional life to helping people, businesses, destinations, and organizations tell their stories. Along the way, I’ve discovered that the most meaningful stories often begin far from a newsroom or boardroom—in villages, vineyards, kitchens, hiking trails, and communities where ordinary people are doing extraordinary things.

I am a freelance writer, editor, photographer, and marketing professional who believes that every person, place, and organization has a story worth sharing.

A Life Built on Curiosity and Connection

My career has followed an unconventional path, one fueled by curiosity, service, and a passion for communication.

Over the years, I have worked as a senior marketing communications coordinator for a software company, managed a federally funded literacy grant, served as a marketing communications consultant, and founded an international nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide.

Each role taught me the value of listening, learning, and connecting with people from diverse backgrounds—skills that continue to shape my writing today.

Building Hope Around the World

One of the most rewarding chapters of my life was founding and leading an international children’s nonprofit organization.

Working alongside young people across the United States, we raised funds for food, education, and community development projects that benefit children in Honduras, Mexico, Thailand, Peru, and beyond.

What began as small acts of generosity grew into something much larger.

Our final and most ambitious project involved funding, managing, and overseeing the construction of a school serving more than 350 children in rural Zambia, Africa. The project became a catalyst for change within the community. As momentum grew, additional organizations joined the effort. A well was installed, a medical center was built and staffed, and educational resources expanded. What was once an underserved area evolved into a thriving village with access to education, healthcare, and opportunity.

The experience reinforced a lesson that continues to influence my work today: stories have the power to inspire action, build connections, and create lasting change.

A Passion for Travel and Discovery

Travel has always been one of my greatest teachers.

Over the years, I have explored destinations throughout North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. From luxury resorts and world-class wine regions to remote villages and off-the-beaten-path adventures, each journey has offered new perspectives and unforgettable experiences.

As a travel writer and journalist, I am especially drawn to the people behind a destination—the chefs, winemakers, guides, artisans, entrepreneurs, and community leaders whose stories bring a place to life.

Their experiences often become the foundation for the articles I write and the photographs I capture.

Life Beyond the Keyboard

When I am not researching a story, interviewing sources, editing articles, or traveling to a new destination, you’ll usually find me embracing life in the Pacific Northwest.

I enjoy hiking forest trails, discovering new restaurants, exploring wine country, cooking gourmet meals, photographing landscapes, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

I am married to my husband, Steve, and together we have two grown children and grandchildren who continually remind me that life’s greatest adventures are often the ones closest to home.

Whether I’m exploring a luxury resort, interviewing a chef, hiking a mountain trail, or sharing a meal around the family table, I believe the best stories are those that bring people together.

Why I Write

At its core, writing is about connection.

It is about helping businesses share their vision, showcasing remarkable destinations, celebrating inspiring people, and creating content that informs, entertains, and inspires.

Every article, photograph, and project I undertake is rooted in a simple goal: to tell stories that matter.

And I would be honored to help tell yours.
